Listen To Your Computer! You May Save Your Data, Money, and Time!

Found this very interesting article about the sounds made by a failing hard drive. If I had a nickel for the times I have heard most of these (and yes… the Maxtor sounds are the most common. This is why I use Maxtor hard drives as door stops only).

OUCH!

Folks, if you care, it is a good thing to get a quiet moment, press your ear to your computer, reboot, and listen to the drives spin up. It may tell you a lot.

This site contains sound samples of various brands of hard drives in many different states of failure or near failure. Before you test your own computer, check out this site.

And like Todd Rundgren said, “Now, if ya have a pair of headphones ya better get’m out and get’m cranked up, cause they’re really gonna help ya on this one…” The samples on this site are a bit hard to hear on external speakers.

I may even send you a 10 Gig Maxtor hard drive (probably not functioning) if you can make a hit song out of the sounds!  HAHA! (Nobukazu Takemura is ineligible for this contest!)

Don’t you just hate me?

Yes ladies and jellyspoons, It is around 70 degrees today in southern Cali. I know that you all are having one of the worst winters of your lives and I hate to rub it in, but I’m gonna anyway.

SUNSHINE AND WARM WEATHER BABY.

We are headed to Palm Desert California, just outside of Palm Springs. Not a cloud in the sky and warm as all get out.

I mean you must just wanna shoot me. But that will have to wait until April when our westerly trip is done and we head back east to Newark.

The past few weeks have been fine. Riverside, CA , then a trip up to Washington State, back down through Oregon, and now Southern CA.

The Lead that I cover, Sir Bedevere, had to step out of the show for a few days to attend a funeral back east. So I got to play a leading role in Riverside which is an A market. Fun stuff. He’s back now and all is well . I’m sorta glad to be back in my old track. more comfortable.

We are seeing some beautiful countryside. chased a prairie dog at a gas stop yesterday that looked very much like Glaydburger. Being out here makes me want to learn Spanish. We all really should.

Next big cities are Phoenix, Thousand Oaks, and (sigh) Santa Barbara. Sunny beach 4 miles away from S.B., and we have a golden day there. can’t wait.

hope all is well and you guys are keeping warm. Can’t wait to see you in April.

Partly Rainy Snowy Sleety TRENCHY DRILLY JACKHAMMERY

Yesterday, an army of PGW (Philadelphia Gas Works) and policemen told me to move my car as they were investigating a gas leak on my block.   I moved my car to the other side of the street.  Suddenly a platoon of media trucks showed up.  I couldn’t help but think this had something to do with the big gas pipe explosion that happened last week here in Philly (killing 1 guy).  The police chased them off (thankfully)!

This all started Tuesday, Jan. 25 around 2 PM.  They have been jackhammering and drilling my street (which has been closed) since (even at 3AM).  There are now 4 huge trenches in my street and the sidewalks are all tore up.  Add to this joy, it’s trash day tomorrow, the street is still closed and we’re expecting 10 inches of snow (at most).

Sing it with me, “PHIL-A-DEL-PHI-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!”

Behold! The soupy shit that is our weather and Trench Number 1 of 4. Click it for a biggy!

It will be very interesting to see what garbage day will hold for us tomorrow when the street is closed and 10 inches of snow is already on the ground.  Place your bets people!!!  (This is better than Parx casino – you don’t even have to leave your kid in the car!)
