I’ve been killing myself with the Carpenters, Hugo Montenegro, Ennio Morricone, Herb & the TJB, and Burt Bacharach lately. (I think its the warmer weather that makes me go this way, as well and my age). I found these sites kick ass and feed the need (just click the logo’s to open in a new window).
Also have been really overplaying a lot Burt Bacharach (once again the warm weather could be the influence here). I’ve been spending too much time on his homepage humorously called “A House is Not A Homepage”. It’s worth a look just to see the cheesy picture of him doing his best Isaac from the Love Boat pose.
And of course, this trip down easy listening grandma music wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the legendary A&M Corner website.
My personal opinion:
“Lounge Lizards Website” – A promising site. What is with all the Germanic titles though? I thought I was leafing through Heinrich Himmler’s Easly Listening collection! (cue sarcasm)… I’ve just been DYING to get my hands on “Ady Zehnpfennig – Der Europa Grand Prix” or the classic “Günter Noris- Die Tanzplatte des Jahres ’77”! – Seriously, what’s with all the Kraut-muzik labels? I fully expected everyone in Germany in 1977 to be listening to Kraftwerk! Still, most of this is the easy-listening music my old man used to listen to and appreciate. Me too,…at the dentist.
“A House is not a Homepage” – Click on this and prepare to be bored. As exciting visually as watching Burt Bacharach eat a Miracle Whip and Wonder Bread sandwich with the crusts removed. Honestly, a website featuring Grandmothers knitting or even a site about the masturbatory habits of Mel Torme would have been at least something to look at. (I guess ya gotta be a BB fan, huh?)
“A&M Corner” – Now we’re talking! Anything that keeps me current on Julius Wechter, Herb Alpert and Sergio Mendez is A-OKAY in my book.
Nice to know there’s a resource like this out there.
