Don Cornelius finally lead his last line dance into the cosmos last night…
In honor of this man helping me and so many others out of the tedium of suburan life for one afternoon a week, lets all get up and put on something funky and Soul Train Line Dance like you never have before…
And if one day I should become, A singer with a Spanish bum,
Who sings for women of great virtue
I’d sing to them with a guitar, I borrowed from a coffee bar,
Well, what you don’t know doesn’t hurt you
My name would be Antonio, And all my bridges I would burn, And when I gave them some they’d know,
I’d expect something in return
I’d have to get drunk every night, And talk about virility, With some old grandmother,
That might be decked out like a Christmas tree
And though pink elephants I’d see, Though I’d be drunk as I could be, Still I would sing my song to me,
About the time they called me “Jacky”
If I could be for only an hour
If I could be for an hour every day
If I could be for just one little hour
Cute Cute in a stupid ass way
And if I joined the social whirl, Became procurer of young girls,
Then i would have my own bordellos
My record would be number one, And I’d sell records by the ton,
All sung by many other fellows
My name would then be handsome Jack, And I’d sell boats of opium, Whiskey that came from Twickenham
Authentic queers, And phony virgins
If I had banks on every finger, A finger in every country, And every country ruled by me,
I’d still know where I’d want to be
Locked up inside my opium den, Surrounded by some china men, I’d sing the song that I sang then,
About the time they called me “Jacky”
If I could be for only an hour
If I could be for an hour every day
If I could be for just one little hour
Cute Cute in a stupid ass way
Now, tell me, wouldn’t it be nice, That if one day in paradise,
I’d sing for all the ladies up there,
And they would sing along with me, And we be so happy there to be,
Cos’ down below is really nowhere
My name would then be Juniper, And then I would become all knowing, Then I would know where I was going,
My beard so very long and flowing
If I became deaf, dumb and blind, Because I pitied all mankind, And broke my heart to make things right
I know that every single night
When my angelic work was through, The angels and the Devil too, Would sing my childhood song to me
About the time they called me “Jacky”
If I could be for only an hour
If I could be for an hour every day
If I could be for just one little hour
Cute Cute in a stupid ass way
This is a bit from a day long jam session when Kevin and Mary. Kevin brought over a fretless bass and iPad with the Korg iMS20 application on it. We plugged in the iPad, my Kaossilator, and the (squeaky always out of tune) Monotron and jammed for the afternoon/evening.
I came away with 3, 25-30 minute long jam recordings. I spent time last night breaking them into 4 separate tracks.
1 is 3:29
2 is 1:22
3 is 9:39
and 4 is 25:18 (nice and long).
I’m putting up track 1 here. Tell me what you think! I think we’re getting better at this stuff. I particularly find myself listening to a lot of this stuff ON PURPOSE!!! (Imagine that shit!) It’s actually enjoyable.
Check it out. Track 1 from the Kevin/Mary/Cemego day!

It is NOT ALL THE INSTRUMENTS AT ONCE (for instance, the monotron didn’t make it into this one) but the other 3 tracks are definitely worthwhile. I’ll put them in the mp3volumes as soon as I’m settled with them. If you cant wait to hear them, either visit me or make a special request and you can get them off the FTP.
For some stupid reason I’m really proud of the noises that have been coming out of my house.
Here’s images and links to the stuff we used to make this noise. Click the image for a link to the site for each “toy”.

This time I’m using the Korg Kaossilator, Monotron, and Sony Acid Loops.
Worked about 2 hours on this one. Started out almost like a carbon copy of the opening of Stevie Nicks’s “Stand Back”, but Gamera made sure that didn’t happen!
If you use a machine to make synthesizer sound loops, some would right away revert to building a beat first.
But sometimes if you wash a bunch of random tones in reverb, loop them, and audibly push them to the back, you aren’t bothered by the loop so much.
Here’s something I made tonite. This was done live in real time on my new Kaossilator.
This is my impression of a quick stitch together Harold Budd ambient piano offering. You can also here me screw with the patch settings on the device. (This is the only time being an amateur really doesn’t sound that bad!)
