WMOM: Music of Magnesia

UPDATED WORDPRESS TODAY! Testing a New MP3 Player plug-in!

Rundgren Todd-Surf Talks

To simply create a player for a track you upload to the media library:

  1. Decide on the mp3 you wish to upload.
  2. On the sidebar, click Media.
  3. Click Add New.
  4. Upload the mp3 from your computer to the media libary.  NOTE:  The mp3 must be under 8 megs or 8,000 k.
  5. VERY IMPORTANT: After it uploads, MAKE NOTE OF FILE NAME. The uploader WILL change the filename. You want to make a note of how it changed (Ctrl-C – copy it somewhere).  Here’s an example of what it did to me:  The file on my hard drive is named as follows:TV Toons-Rockford Files.mp3The filename you must call is listed on this screen as (notice the location of the dashes):TV-Toons-Rockford-Files.mp3
  6. Create your new post to hold the player.  Using the song above I will enter the text WITHOUT QUOTES (but definitely with the brackets) into the HTML editor:

TA DAAAAH!  It’s that easy (somewhat).

TV Toons-Rockford Files

Here’s the same thing but in a nifty “customizable” player.

The code for that looks like this:

This plug in will allow you to create customizable playlists (provided all your media is uploaded), adjust volume, and a bunch of other neato things.  I just think it’s nice to actually play something from the blog rather than have people download it to play it.

Here’s the link for the instructions

Here’s a playback link to WMOM.

The code for that looks like this:

Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass Psychadelia – Dust Off Your Balance Knob

Trippy Herb
Trip out with Herb Alpert mannnn

I have remixed Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass’s-Green Leaves of Summer.

I had a mix of it recorded backwards that I was enjoying and Will recommended that I have it playing backwards and forwards at the same time.

I took the extra step and put the backwards recording in the left speaker and the forwards recording in the right speaker.  That way you can enjoy them both or separate.

First the Portsmouth Sinfonia and NOW I’m Hooked on The Shaggs!

You all may know of my love of the Portsmouth Sinfonia.  They were an orchestral band of trained musicians who were required to play on instruments they didn’t know how to play. (It is rumored that one member of the Portsmouth Sinfonia was actually disciplined for attempting to practice!) I was drawn into this by one of it’s members, Mr. Brian Eno. Here’s a head bangin’ sample of the Portsmouth Sinfonia!

But NOW we have this band called The Shaggs.

The Shaggs Can't Play for Shit!

Thanks to Huffington Post for posting this, so I don’t have to describe it. Read the article, listen to the music/video’s. (If it’s good enough for Frank Zappa it’s DEFINITELY worth a listen – even if only for a giggle). Apparently there’s a live musical, play, bit, thing about this. I’d love to see it. Once again, I’m stepping into the world of theater appreciation.

My New Favorite Singer

With the recent events that surround someone I love being assaulted in such a manner that is SO offensive to me, this guy has brought a smile back to my face. I just wish I could fly him over the pond and let him sing his magic at a certain place that deserves all the Fuck, Cunt, Ass, Ass Cheeks, etc. they can get. Here is my guy singing a few shit list favorites:

GOLD!

Personal Fav:

And who can forget…

How bout a little respect fucker?

Fucker in Red. ASS CHEEKS!

Enjoy!

Quando, Quando, Quando.

I really love WMOM. Not because its a family member’s station, but because it keeps alive those things in life that just should not be forgotten.

One of these gems is Engelbert Humperdinck. Once an idol, and now a shit list favorite. Growing up, he made my granny’s (in the words of Jerri Blank) as “moist as a snack cake down there.” She would play his record all the time…Today is Englebert’s birthday and I want to give a shout out to all those grannies in the world whom during the driest part of their years, could still bring on the showers for some hot Engelbert Humperdinck meat. HA!

HELLO my geeky, radio, shortwave, internet, audio, gadget, computer and electronics friends!!!

Hello my friends in geekdom,

This was really crazy but I stumbled over this article:

http://www.archive.org/details/ird059

and it really “freaked me out” (because I’ve heard these sounds before.  A lot of it!  In some very interesting musical contexts).  I’ve never known about this, but there is this thing called “Numbers Stations” that are broadcast on shortwave radio as a way to communicate to international spies and stuff.  Thankfully, somebody has collected and posted some of this stuff to the Internet. I listened to some of the samples and I recognized sounds that were used in various recordings of music that I enjoy such as obscure stuff like ChromaKey, Brian Eno, etc.. As we all know my taste in music is poop anyway, but I’m curious if any of it sounds familiar to any of you? I just thought this was interesting, and I know I have super geeky friends out there that would find this “neato” as well.
